Summer Comiket for $2000

I like a challenge. When someone at Brisbane Anime Society made the claim that “Comiket is too expensive” I laughed a mighty laugh and told them that it could be done for a mere $2000. Considering that Kevin Rudd is handing out his $900 hush money at the moment, that’s practically halfway there!

Now, this doesn’t include shopping money. Well, there is some money left over, but the amount you should bring is a personal thing – some people will want to load up on doujinshi, others will want to take in the atmosphere and hang out in the cosplay areas.

Tokyo Big Sight

Winter Comiket 75 is the first stop on my trip. I’ve never been to FuyuKomi before but my first WonderFestival was in February 2006, and I did get 3 NatsuKomi’s and a few other cons under my belt so here is my rough-as-guts guide to attending a convention in Japan if you don’t live there.

Yet another post about Japan travel – I swear I’ll write about something else eventually. I’m in the process of making and confirming bookings. The internet is awesome  – you don’t really need a travel agent if you’re a bit net-savvy and have some time on your hands. I’m flogging the prefix from Guerrilla Film Making and coining a new term – Guerrilla Travel Booking. Guerrilla Film Making is all about film making on a non-existent budget. So is Guerrilla Travel Booking – it’s all about booking your travel yourself with a travel agent

I’ve done my bookings almost entirely via the internet, and it’s saved me a considerable amount of money. Which is good because the yen is currently holding the Australian dollar down and slapping it with it’s own hands taunting, “Stop hitting yourself – why do you keep hitting yourself?!” Here’s some tips on where to get yourself some cheap booking action for a trip to Japan, or anywhere for that matter.
