My name is Bill Cooney and I’m a musician, music technologist, photographer, filmmaker, designer, writer, event producer, educator, creative professional, sum of my experiences.

To date these experiences have included

  • studying music & music technology at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music
  • completing a post-graduate dissertation on audience engagement in contemporary electronic music performance and gestural control
  • working in events production & corporate theatre as a camera operator, video editor, sound, lighting & AV technican
  • living in northern Japan for 3 years, learning Japanese and buying far too many artifacts of nerdiness
  • teaching English in Japanese junior high & elementary schools, assisting with international exchange events & program
  • gaining advance degrees in physical origami and contortionism through snowboarding
  • working as an account manager & event producer in-house at a five star hotel (not nearly as glamorous as it sounds)

I am currently studying education as a post-graduate student in order to become a music and Japanese teacher.

My interests are music, movies, photography, snowboarding, food, wine, cooking, travel,  Japanese pop-culture, studying Japanese, finding a way to guarantee an exit row in economy class, technology, international relations & cross-cultural communication, speculative fiction & good conversation.

I’ve written about Japanese pop-culture for a few websites (which shall remain nameless and unlinked, mainly due to the OTHER content that exists on there and the high possibility that this site will be googled during my search for employment). I’ve also had cosplay and other Japan-related photos appear in European and Australian magazines.
